The role of Animal Welfare Specialist
We are looking for a future-focused person, who can help Zoos Victoria lead the field of zoo welfare; the Animal Welfare Specialist's role focuses on strategic approaches to animal welfare research and assessments that will guide the justified, humane and effective principles of animal care across Zoos Victoria.
This entails strategic delivery of animal welfare-based research projects for our zoo animals, and collaboration to support our scientific programs for threatened species, wildlife welfare and social science.
The ideal candidate will have:
- PhD in Animal Welfare Science, Biological Sciences or related field
- Expertise in the extension and communication of animal welfare requirements
- Well-developed conceptual and analytical skills pertaining to animal welfare and captive animal management.
- Demonstrated experience in animal-welfare research, ideally in a zoo setting.
- Demonstrated experience managing and co-ordinating an applied research program, including research student supervision.
