19th International Congress on Infectious Diseases – Kuala Lumpur February 20-23, 2020 – Submit Your Proposal

As we prepare for the 19th International Congress on Infectious Diseases to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in collaboration with the Malaysian Society for Infectious Diseases and Chemotherapy (MSIDC), ISID seeks member input.
The 19th ICID Organizing Committee will allocate up to two sessions during the 19th
ICID for ISID member-proposed symposia. You are welcome to submit a proposal for consideration by January 31, 2019. Symposia are 1.5 hours long and should include three speakers. Each speaker is asked to prepare a 20-minute presentation to be followed by a 5-minute question and answer period. ISID will reimburse economy airfare, accommodation and conference registration for invited speakers.
Symposia proposals must meet the following requirements and format:
  • The symposium should address an infectious diseases challenge of particular importance to low and middle-income countries.
  • Three speakers, all from different countries, must be included.
  • At least one speaker should be from the WHO Southeast Asia region – the region hosting the 19th ICID.
  • Symposia including at least one young investigator (40 years or younger) will be given highest priority.
  • Proposals will not be considered either from, or including associates of ISID (current & former Executive and Council members, Emerging Leaders and ProMED staff)
Symposia will be reviewed and scored by members of the 19th ICID Organizing Committee.

The Location & Lifestyle: In Port Augusta you get the best of both worlds with the ocean on your doorstep, and located at the foothills of the Flinders Ranges there are great walking tracks for people keen to get out of town and experience the Australian Outback. It is brilliant for someone who enjoys, hiking and bushwalking or water sports.

We have a 3-bedroom house that you can rent at an affordable rate or get a private rental through town which is very reasonably priced.  There is one other clinic in town and many young professionals and lots of sporting teams!

Our Team: We are a team of 14 led by husband and wife team of Roger Absalom Senior Veterinarian and Louise Absalom, Practice Manager. We have worked on our team dynamic over the past few years and work well together, as a supportive environment, this is something we are proud of and is important for us to continue. As a business we are also teamed up with the United Vet Group and have membership of several Australian Veterinary Association groups and pay AVA Membership for the role, so there is lots of support and networking that effectively extends our team.

Call for nominations: Wild Horse Scientific Advisory Panel for Kosciuszko National Park, Closes 21 Dec 2018

Applications are now open for membership of the Wild Horse Scientific Advisory Panel.

The Panel will provide rigorous scientific and technical advice to the Office of Environment and Heritage to inform preparation of a draft wild horse heritage management plan for Kosciuszko National Park to be prepared under the Kosciuszko Wild Horse Heritage Act 2018.

Nominations are invited from persons with expertise and skills in one or more of the following areas:

  • cultural heritage assessment and management
  • animal welfare and veterinary science
  • animal population survey, modelling and statistical analysis
  • horse ecology (including demography, reproduction and behaviour) and/or horse population control techniques
  • vertebrate pest species management, including assessment of impacts to natural and cultural values
  • biology and ecology of the flora and fauna of the Australian Alps / Kosciuszko National Park and associated alpine, sub alpine and montane ecosystems
  • soil erosion and soil processes.

The size of the Panel will be determined based on the range of expertise received in nominations. If additional scientific expertise is required, further appointments may be made.

Panel appointments will initially be for 12 months.
