Position Description<\/h3>\n

AIFST is seeking applications to fill two Board vacancies at its 2018 AGM to be held in Melbourne on 31 May 2018.<\/p>\n

Applications are sought from individuals with a genuine interest in AIFST\u2019s business who will contribute to the implementation of the 2016 \u2013 2018 and beyond \u2018s strategic plan and vision, and development of the Institute\u2019s offerings to its members\u2019 and the global food industry.<\/p>\n

The term of appointment will be 3 years, subject to the rotations that are required by the constitution. The position is an expensed position. The five set Board meetings and AGM include four face-to-face full day meetings held on a quarterly basis and one teleconference meeting which runs for approximately 2 \u2013 3 hours; additional meetings are held as required. Board meetings are usually held in Sydney.<\/p>\n

There is an expectation that where possible Directors will attend the occasional AIFST member event or function to further network with members.<\/p>\n

About The Organisation<\/h3>\n

The Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology Limited (AIFST) is the independent voice and network for Australia\u2019s food industry professionals to underpin and support their contribution to the Australian and global food industry.<\/p>\n

Following prior international linkages, the Institute was formally established in 1967 and celebrated its 50th year of operation in 2017. AIFST has a small Sydney based CEO-led secretariat of 4 FTE equivalents.<\/p>\n

The organisation is currently operating in line with its 2016 \u2013 2018 Strategic Plan focused on the strategic priorities related to Membership Services, Skill and Capability Building, Industry Services, Advocacy and Communications.<\/p>\n

This strategic plan will be revised and renewed in early 2018 under the guidance of the newly appointed CEO.<\/p>\n

The Board has identified the following skills as being required to strengthen the organisation and complement the existing board skills:<\/p>\n

\u00b7 Membership services development \u2013 focused on driving the organisation\u2019s ongoing value proposition and service offering for members.
\n\u00b7 Government and stakeholder relations \u2013 in order to ensure a continuing focus is kept on financial sustainability and viability of the Institute, experience in driving relationships with government and external networks, with an eye to growth and finances is sought to support the Institute\u2019s longer term model.<\/p>\n

CORE COMPETENCIES
\nThe following outlines the core competencies desired of potential candidates:
\n\u00b7 Sound governance knowledge base, AICD qualifications preferred
\n\u00b7 Strategic thinker
\n\u00b7 Collegiate working style
\n\u00b7 Collaborative in nature with a focus on team work
\n\u00b7 An ability to understand key Financial indicators
\n\u00b7 Experience on a prior Board would be helpful.
\n\u00b7 Knowledge of the food, beverage, agriculture, technology, or manufacturing industries could be useful.
\n\u00b7 Understanding of, or experience with, membership organisations.<\/p>\n
