{"id":20570,"date":"2021-04-15T13:12:29","date_gmt":"2021-04-15T03:12:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/veterinarycareers.com.au\/dev\/?p=20570"},"modified":"2021-04-15T13:12:29","modified_gmt":"2021-04-15T03:12:29","slug":"join-the-nsw-governments-veterinary-practitioners-board","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/veterinarycareers.com.au\/dev\/join-the-nsw-governments-veterinary-practitioners-board\/","title":{"rendered":"Join the NSW Government&#8217;s Veterinary Practitioners Board"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"page-title\">\n<h1>Veterinary Practitioners Board<\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content-wrapper\">\n<div id=\"content_container_1298628\">\n<p>Applications are invited from people to join the Veterinary Practitioners Board (the Board).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Board is an independent State Government body corporate established under the\u00a0<a title=\"www.legislation.nsw.gov.au\/maintop\/view\/inforce\/act+87+2003+cd+0+N - Redirects to external website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.legislation.nsw.gov.au\/maintop\/view\/inforce\/act+87+2003+cd+0+N\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\"><em>Veterinary Practice Act 2003\u00a0<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0The object of the\u00a0<a title=\"www.legislation.nsw.gov.au\/viewtop\/inforce\/subordleg+490+2013+cd+0+N\/?dq=Regulations%20under%20Veterinary%20Practice%20Act%202003%20No%2087 - Redirects to external website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.legislation.nsw.gov.au\/viewtop\/inforce\/subordleg+490+2013+cd+0+N\/?dq=Regulations%20under%20Veterinary%20Practice%20Act%202003%20No%2087\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\"><em>Veterinary Practice Act 2003<\/em><\/a>\u00a0is to regulate the provision of veterinary services in NSW for the following purposes to:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>promote the welfare of animals<\/li>\n<li>ensure consumers of veterinary services are well informed as to the competencies required of veterinary practitioners<\/li>\n<li>ensure that acceptable standards are required to be met by veterinary practitioners so as to meet the public interest and national and international trade requirements, and<\/li>\n<li>provide public health protection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Board achieves these purposes through performing a number of functions including:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>the registration of veterinary practitioners and licensing of veterinary hospitals;<\/li>\n<li>investigation of complaints against veterinary practitioners;<\/li>\n<li>developing\u00a0<a title=\"GR01 Veterinary Practitioners Code of Professional Conduct.pdf (195kb - Redirects to external website\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vpb.nsw.gov.au\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/GR01%20Veterinary%20Practitioners%20Code%20of%20Professional%20Conduct.pdf\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">codes of professional conduct for veterinary practitioners<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>enforcing the provisions of the Act and Regulation;<\/li>\n<li>promoting professional development of veterinary practitioners; and<\/li>\n<li>providing information to veterinary practitioners and consumers of veterinary services.<\/li>\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Board is responsible for developing an annual report for the minister to present to both NSW government parliaments in accordance with the\u00a0<em>Annual Reports (Statutory Bodies) Act 1984.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Board cooperates with other jurisdictions in Australia and New Zealand to further a common and harmonious approach to regulation of the veterinary profession. This function is assisted through interaction with other state veterinary boards, the\u00a0<a title=\"www.avbc.asn.au\/ - Redirects to external website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.avbc.asn.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">Australasian Veterinary Boards Council Inc.
