Expression of Interest – Animal Ethics Committee Membership, Category A (Veterinarian)
Expressions of Interest are sought for a Veterinarian to contribute to the GOTAFE Animal Ethics Committee.
The Role:
The primary responsibility of Animal Ethics Committees (AECs) is to ensure that the use of animals for teaching activities at GOTAFE is conducted in compliance with the Australian Code for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes.
The role of the Category A (Veterinarian) Member is to provide an expert perspective on applications for the ethical use of animals in teaching at GOTAFE with regards to the health and welfare of animals.
Commitment:
AEC members must be able to commit time to pre-read and review applications prior to each meeting, and attend the Committee meetings. The AEC members meet a minimum of 4 times per year, for 2-3 hourly Wednesday meetings held in Benalla. Members are expected to attend AEC training, conducted by Animal Welfare Victoria, DEDJTR.
Remuneration:
An honorarium for external members is provided for attendance at meetings.
Selection Criteria:
Essential
- Veterinary degree
- Experience in the health, welfare and husbandry of domestic companion and farm animals, including horses.
Desirable
- Previous experience with animals in a teaching environment.
