Job description

WIRES Welfare Coordinator's role is dedicated to ensuring best practice rescue and rehabilitation processes are in place to optimise welfare outcomes for native animals.

The role will be based in Brookvale, with some availability to work from home, and there will be a wide range of field work.

This is a 12 month full-time position with potential for extension.

 

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY INCLUDE:

  • Managing community complaints and issues related to animal welfare
  • Managing reported cases through to resolution
  • Reporting community or volunteer concerns regarding the illegal killing and trapping of native wildlife species to the relevant authority
  • Conducting regular inspections focused on proactive, positive support of volunteers to improve the outcomes for wildlife under rehabilitation
  • Assist with the coordination of animal welfare as needed at facilities
  • Supporting staff and volunteers regarding animal welfare related enquiries
  • Liaising with volunteers to assist with reporting of animals in care, monitoring outcomes to ensure positive animal welfare processes
  • Assessing and managing risks to compliance in order ensure best practice welfare outcomes are achieved.

 

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Extensive experience in an animal welfare related field or a regulatory environment
  • Detailed understanding of all wildlife rehabilitation Codes of Practice
  • Veterinary training (desirable)
  • Highly organised, reliable, efficient & detail oriented with excellent written & verbal communication skills
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (desirable)
  • Strong conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to multi-task
  • Demonstrated ability to improve animal welfare outcomes and work well with a range of stakeholders
  • Positive attitude & ability to work in a team
  • Committed to prompt rescue and care services prioritising welfare at all times
  • Awareness of the importance of data integrity and accuracy
  • Willingness to work cooperatively and collaboratively across the organisation
  • Openness to change and the flexibility to accommodate changing requirements to fulfil objectives
  • Maintaining confidentiality in all aspects of this role
