About the role..

The primary remit of the Wildlife Pathologist will be to maintain the world-class wildlife diagnostic services of the Australian Registry of Wildlife Health (the Registry), to meet the increasing demand for diagnostic expertise in wildlife health, and to increase awareness and engage stakeholders to build diagnostic capacity nation-wide. The pathologist will believe strongly in the principles of One Health and will actively contribute to health outcomes for wildlife, domestic species, and humans in Australia. The role will also work closely with and provide collaborative, mutual support to the Zoo Pathology team.

 

Key accountabilities…

  • Undertake wildlife diagnostic work at Taronga and assist with disease investigations of new and emerging wildlife disease issues
  • Communicate diagnostic results and research in high impact journals, to zoo staff and to the wider community
  • Prepare grants to fund research activity
  • Train students, colleagues and professionals to increase capacity in wildlife disease within Australia
  • Work effectively as a member of a high performing team including peers, volunteers and students to assist Taronga in its achievement of strategic outcomes.

 

About you..

We are looking for candidates that have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Veterinary Science and registration or eligibility for registration with the Veterinary Practitioners Board of NSW
  • Post-graduate training in veterinary pathology or equivalent preferred (e.g. Board Certification, Membership of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists – Veterinary Pathology membership).
  • Experience in pathology relating to wildlife, ideally including the investigation of outbreaks or widespread events
  • Proven experience and passion for communicating with stakeholders and members of the public

While the advertised role is full time, there may be opportunities for part time veterinary pathologist support in the near future, so please consider applying with reference to your availability for the full and/or part time role.
