About National Trust Queensland & the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital

Since its creation in 1989, Currumbin Wildlife Hospital has grown to be one of the busiest wildlife hospitals in the world, now treating over 14,000 animals every year. In addition, the hospital provides veterinary care to the Sanctuary captive animal collection and conducts world-leading research and conservation projects, often working collaboratively with esteemed education and government partners.

 

The hospital is located within the grounds of Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, one of 14 properties managed by National Trust of Australia Queensland (NTAQ). NTAQ is a membership-based environmental organisation and registered charity that works to conserve and advance our natural and cultural heritage for future generations.

 

To support the Wildlife Hospital operations, we have opportunity for a Full Time or Part Time Veterinarian - 12 month Fixed Term, to join our highly respected Wildlife Hospital Team that comprises a team of 7 veterinarians and 30 vet nurses, whilst working on their own caseload and work towards our Mission and Vision to be leader in conservation and heritage

 

About the Role

The Wildlife Hospital prides itself on providing the highest level of care possible to our patients and is well equipped with both flexible and rigid endoscopy, digital radiography, multiple ultrasounds, and diagnostic lab.  In this dynamic & fast paced environment, our dedicated veterinarians are responsible for providing veterinary care to Australian Wildlife, including clinical and surgical duties as level of experience allows.

 

As our knowledgeable Veterinarian, you will undertake laboratory diagnostic procedures, including sample collection and storage & calculate, prepare and administer medications, including anaesthetics.  In this role, you will also complete administrative duties including recording and maintaining clinical treatment files and laboratory diagnostic test results.

 

As a confident animal handler, you will be able to undertake safe capture and restraint techniques of both native and exotic species and work with a team of dedicated Team Members and volunteers to ensure the care and welfare of the animals who stay at the veterinary clinic.  We have a range of shift times that can be adjusted to fit with the needs of the suitable candidate.

 

As a broader member of NTAQ, you will also represent our Mission and Values and work to deliver the key message of organisation and will have the opportunity to assist and participate in research projects that contribute to our Mission.

 

About You

To be successful in this role, you will hold a Bachleror of Veterinary Science or equivalent recognised qualification able to be registered in Queensland, and have prior experience the Veterinary industry, working with wildlife and exotic species.  Other key skills and qualifications we are looking for include:

 

  • Strong understanding, knowledge and practical veterinary skills of zoo, exotic & native wildlife species
  • You will be an energised, diplomatic, highly capable, and personable individual with a genuine interest and passion for wildlife.
  • Can demonstrate a highly flexible, cooperative, and positive attitude.
  • Liaise and communicate in a friendly and effective manner with all key contacts including internal department staff, volunteers, and associated veterinary contacts.
