About Us:

Wildlife Habitat, nestled at the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest in tropical Port Douglas, is an award-winning wildlife park. Proudly accredited by ZAA, we provide exceptional care for a diverse range of Australian fauna, including, Southern Cassowary, Estuarine Crocodiles, Northern Koalas and more. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Wildlife Team Leader to join our team.

 

Position Highlights:

An exciting opportunity awaits an experienced & passionate individual to join us as the Wildlife Team Leader. As a Team Leader at Wildlife Habitat, you will be an integral part of our dedicated team, overseeing the care, conservation, and presentation of our iconic Australian animals. You will lead a large team of Wildlife Keepers, ensuring high standards of animal welfare and guest experience in our beautiful Port Douglas setting.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise a team of extraordinary Wildlife Keepers, ensuring high standards of animal care, enrichment, and habitat maintenance are met consistently.
  • Develop, implement & abide by policies and procedures to uphold the welfare of our resident biological collection, and ensure compliance with relevant industry Standards & Guidelines.
  • Coordinate daily operations, including feeding schedules, health checks, and visitor interactions, to deliver exceptional guest experiences.
  • Collaborate with management to strategies and execute conservation initiatives and educational programs.

 

Your application is recommended to Include:

  • Proven paid experience in a leadership role within a zoo, wildlife park, or similar environment, managing teams of multiple staff.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant QLD legislation, wildlife care practices, enrichment techniques, and conservation principles.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments and stakeholders to achieve park objectives.
  • Experience in developing and implementing policies, ensuring adherence to safety and welfare standards.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Australian wildlife.
  • Knowledge of animal conditioning and positive reinforcement.
  • Strong Computer skills and ability to work with rostering software.
  • Manual driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 2 months of employment and own reliable vehicle.
  • Availability to work over a 7-day roster, including weekends, public holidays, and school holidays.
  • Ability to comply with our Drug & Alcohol Policy
