Description

About the role

You will provide vital help to all creatures great and small by ensuring the delivery and standard of the front of house processes and procedures are maintained at a high standard while having a collaborative relationship with the volunteers based within the wildlife departments at both the Wacol and Eumundi facilities.

 

People

  • Build the wildlife hospital volunteer team and provide recognition
  • Actively train, supervise and support all volunteers on shift
  • Monitor the availability of volunteers and organise the rosters as needed
  • Maintain positive relationships with rescue and care groups
  • Promptly respond to all phone call and emails directed to the Wildlife Hospital
  • Conduct tours of the wildlife hospital facilities of internal and external visitors as requested
  • Act as a central point of contact for visiting university researchers and veterinary and/or wildlife students
  • Ensure that systems, policies and workplace health and safety guidelines are adhered to by the volunteers.

 

Animals

  • Assist with compiling the daily spreadsheet of inpatients cleared to be sent to care, release or transfer to another facility
  • Assist the volunteer receptionist with arranging suitable carers
  • Oversee the transport of wildlife to carers, releases, rescue groups and other facilities; as well as veterinary pick-ups of wildlife as per QLD ambulance jobs
  • In consultation with the veterinary team, ensure specimens submitted for pathology are correctly labelled and collected as requested
  • Finalise and file paperwork of discharged, transferred and euthanised patients.

 

Who are we looking for?

  • Demonstrated ability to work well & multi-task under pressure in a high-volume, busy hospital environment
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written)
  • Excellent relationship building skills across levels and departments
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills, including high attention to detail and ability to prioritise tasks
  • Ability to establish solutions for complex problems whilst working autonomously and as collaborating as part of a team
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Genuine interest in animal welfare and the objectives of RSPCA Qld
  • Ability to perform physical duties including manual handling, and an ability to handle a minimum weight of 10 kilos.

This is a full time, permanent position, working 40 hours per week between Monday and Friday (being 38 hours plus 2 reasonable additional hours). Remuneration is as per the RSPCA Qld Enterprise Agreement for Customer Care and Administrative Staff – Level 3 with a starting pay rate of $26.15 per hour + superannuation.
