About the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic Wildlife Biologist to join our Melbourne team and report directly to the Victorian Team Leader.

 

Location: The role is based near Avalon and suits students pursuing a tertiary degree in biology, ecology, environmental management, wildlife, or similar fields, with a keen interest in bird behaviour. Graduates or prospective graduates are also welcome to apply.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct site assessments and standardised surveys.
  • Use data collection applications and survey equipment.
  • Perform bird dispersal activities.
  • Work independently, primarily on weekends. Early morning and evening work will be required during Australian Eastern Daylight Time.
  • Some minimal weekday work may be required upon prior discussion and agreement.

 

Requirements:

  • Currently studying or having a tertiary degree in biology, ecology, environmental management, wildlife, or a similar field.
  • Comfortable working near water.
  • Demonstrated wildlife (mainly bird) identification skills and field survey experience.
  • Willingness to disperse birds using various methods, adhering to sound ecological principles and humane practices.
  • Ability to maintain situational awareness regarding safety considerations near water, wildlife presence, and other activities in the area.
  • Strong problem-solving skills for project-related issues.
  • Availability to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends for bird surveys and management.
  • Australian Citizenship.
  • Willingness to undergo a National Police Check.
  • Valid driver's licence.

 

Highly Regarded Skills and Attributes:

  • Demonstrated bird identification skills with wildlife survey experience.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.

Remuneration will be under Professional Employees Award Level 1 Graduate Professional – Pay Point 1.1 (casual employees).
