Remote (Western Canada preferred) | Contract Position
The Western Canadian Animal Health Network (WeCAHN) is seeking a dedicated Coordinator to support its mission of enhancing animal health and welfare through surveillance, knowledge transfer, and collaboration. This is a unique opportunity for a veterinarian with postgraduate epidemiology experience to contribute to a dynamic animal health intelligence network.

WeCAHN is a multi-stakeholder network that monitors and shares trends in animal disease, providing actionable insights for veterinarians, producers, and regulatory bodies. Our work spans companion animals, livestock, and public health, ensuring timely detection and response to emerging health issues.
Key Responsibilities
Surveillance & Data Analysis
- Organize and chair network meetings, facilitating discussion and reporting findings. These include:

- Beef network
- Poultry network
- Dairy network
- Small ruminants network
- Companion animal surveillance initiative o Smallholders network
- Equine network
- Compile and analyze veterinary clinical impression surveys and diagnostic laboratory data, supported by WeCAHN's in-house data dashboards and other data that could be relevant for surveillance purposes, such as abattoir data or information from targeted / disease specific surveillance programs.
- Identify trends of interest, perform targeted epidemiological analyses, and design and administer targeted surveillance projects.
- Develop actionable knowledge transfer materials, including reports, infographics, podcasts and social media content.
- Collaborate closely with Prairie Diagnostic Services (PDS), which serves as the facilitating entity for WeCAHN’s financial management and reporting to stakeholders.
Project & Financial Management
- Track and manage invoices for network practitioners, contractors, and WeCAHN expenses.
- Oversee and monitor financial records.
- Secure and manage RACE accreditation for network meetings.
Communication & Collaboration
- Chair network meetings and facilitate discussions among stakeholders.
- Recruit diverse network contributors, including producers, veterinarians, and industryprofessionals, to enhance the quality of information and discussions.
- Oversee website updates and the dissemination of key findings.
- Identify and coordinate expert presenters and additional knowledge transfer activities.
Supervision
- Provide guidance and oversight to a part-time (0.75 FTE) contracted epidemiologist and ad hoc third-party support as needed.
- Ensure the timely completion of epidemiological projects and external collaborations.
What You Bring
- DVM (or equivalent), eligible for licensure in Canada
- Postgraduate experience in epidemiology: MSc required, PhD & / or board certification with the American College of Veterinary Preventative Medicine preferred
- Strong quantitative analysis skills and experience working with passive surveillance data
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including report writing and knowledge transfer
- Technical proficiency in statistical software, word processing, and social media knowledge-sharing tools (Canva, website maintenance experience a plus)
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively
