Southern Cross Care (SA, NT & VIC) Inc. are seeking volunteers who can assist within our Wellness and Lifestyle Program at The Philip Kennedy Centre Residential Care, located in Largs Bay.
Volunteers have many skills and life experiences that can assist in enhancing the quality of life of our residents by creating opportunities for them to blossom.
To protect the health and safety of our community members and visiting pets, the following requirements must be adhered to by all pet therapy volunteers and pets.
- Please be aware that all pets must be:

- Well behaved
- In good health
- Up to date with relevant treatments (i.e. vaccinations/worming/fleas)
- Under the effective control of volunteers at all times
- At least 1 year old (for dogs and cats)
- Please be aware of the following:
- Pets must be assessed/approved by the Residential Services/Care Manager or Lifestyle Staff before visiting
- Volunteers are responsible for providing pets with food, water and cleaning up any urine/faeces
- Not all residents/clients may wish to interact with pets and their choices must be respected
- Pets are not allowed in areas where food is prepared, served or consumed
- Please discourage residents/clients from kissing pets or bringing pets close to their face.
- Please encourage residents/clients to wash their hands after touching pets.
Time required:
We appreciate the commitment and support of our volunteers and work with each one to arrange the most suitable days and times for them to volunteer with us. Any time you give is valuable, be it 3 days a week or a few hours per month.

All volunteers require the following;
- A current National Police Certificate for the Purpose of Aged Care, or be willing to obtain one
- Evidence you have received the 2023 Influenza Vaccination
In addition, as per the Australian Government mandate for Residential Aged Care Facilities (RACF), Southern Cross Care requires that all volunteers based at a RACF are to be vaccinated, and require proof that they have received three doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
