Description
REF: IRC283083
DEPARTMENT: Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute Northern Ireland (AFBI)
SALARY: £52,026- £55,685
LOCATION: AFBI Stormont, Belfast
This position offers the opportunity to join a well-established, multi-disciplinary and internationally recognised research group and to create and lead the development of a strategic epidemiology research programme. The post-holder will be expected to provide authoritative and expert epidemiology advice on animal disease or food safety matters and to contribute to the vision, scientific leadership and strategic direction for the epidemiology work area.
It is anticipated that, at least initially, a significant part of the work will focus on current and future research and service delivery on bovine tuberculosis, however, within the broad remit of the veterinary scientific work of AFBI, there are significant opportunities to undertake innovative epidemiological research work through access to exceptionally well-recorded active and passive surveillance data and other relevant data streams. Future potential exist to secure impactful outputs from epidemiology in other areas including, for example, food-borne zoonoses, endemic and emerging animal diseases, antimicrobial resistance and, in particular, the interactions between animal disease, climate change and One Health.
Further appointments may be made from this competition should AFBI positions become vacant which have similar duties and responsibilities.
