Our vision
Our vision is a world where every working animal lives a life free from suffering and is treated with compassion.
Our mission

Since 1923, we have supported the welfare of working animals, including donkeys, horses, camels and elephants, in communities that depend on working animals for their livelihoods. Today, we support working animals across 26 countries, through a series of global projects and partnerships.
As SPANA approaches its centenary next year, we are now aiming to build on the charity’s foundations and deliver an ambitious step change in the performance of our global programmes, operating models, global resources and support functions. We are also keen to seize the historic opportunities presented by the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA)’s adoption of the Animal Welfare-Environment-Sustainable Development Nexus resolution. Above all, we want to be recognised unequivocally as a charity that delivers a truly transformational, lasting impact on the welfare of working animals, and serves as an exemplar for innovative, best practice in our sector.
