About the business
Craigieburn Animal Hospital is a well known and highly successful veterinary practice in the north of Melbourne. The hospital extends its services over three sites and the practice manager will have responsibility of managing operations at all three sites. The practice manager will need to work collaboratively with team leaders of each site.
The practice manager is responsible for the business activities of the practice including hiring and training support staff; working with the practice owner to prepare financial statements and budgets, monitoring key performance indicators and setting fees; maintaining inventory and an inventory control system; managing the hospital software; and implementing safety and security procedures.
This is a leadership position with the additional responsibility of ensuring a positive work environment in which the practice achieves its goals.

About the role
This role is responsible for administrative and Human Resource management of the organisation, working closely with, and supporting the Directors. The role involves, but is not strictly limited to:
- Human Resources Management – including but not limited to recruitment and induction activities, performance management, professional development, roster and leave management, interpretation and application of the relevant Award, payroll management
- Coaching, developing and supporting other staff members, and championing a positive workplace culture
- Communications – support open and clear communication between employees and management staff & oversee our social media and website management, including the creation and maintenance of website content and our online booking software
- Client relations – including responding to customer reviews and complaints and debtor management activities as required
- Be the key point of contact for all WHS matters including Workers Compensation policies and claims
- Oversight of Rostering, Payroll, Bookkeeping, debtor management, premises management, stock ordering and IT services within the hospital.
- Other - Communicates objectives, motivates staff, builds, and maintains morale; maintains core values and standards.
- Escalates all incidents and complaints to the practice manager/delegate.
- Coordinates and at times chairs practice staff meetings.
- Promotes cooperative working environment among staff members; understands the value of teamwork; shows enthusiasm and willingness to perform as necessary to help the practice function as a unit.
- Understands and carries out oral and written directions.
- Promotes continuous quality improvement.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Flexible working hours – this is a permanent position with the flexibility to work between 25 to 38 hours per week; hours of work will be negotiated with the successful candidate. We are willing to work with the right person to establish a roster that suits both parties

- Remuneration range - $90000- $105000.
Skills and experience
We are looking for someone with at least 3 years of management and leadership experience. You should have the ability to work collaboratively with our staff and the practice owner, while also being confident to take charge of your own workload and work with minimal direction. Our ideal candidate has the following skills and experience:
- Strong generalist HR skill set and the ability to provide sound professional advice on the full HR Management spectrum, with practical experience in implementing employment law and due process
- Experience coordinating recruitment, selection and induction processes
- Experience in responding to client feedback and complaints
- Ability to lead, influence, coach, counsel and support staff
- Practical experience in running end-to-end fortnightly payroll is preferred (including Award interpretation and associated payroll & tax legislation)
- Excellent communication skills and emotional intelligence
- Ability to quickly solve problems and conflict
- Qualifications in HR and/or Business Management will be highly regarded
- Intermediate to advanced IT skills with the ability to pick up new software systems.
