About us
The Department of Regional NSW (DRNSW) was formed in April 2020 as a central agency for regional issues. At the Department, we are focused on creating a liveable, inclusive and sustainable New South Wales with thriving natural environments and strong primary industries. We are the stewards of our state’s physical and environmental assets - both natural and built - and we work hard every day to ensure New South Wales continues to flourish.
The NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI) sits in the DRNSW Cluster and supports the development of profitable primary industries that create a more prosperous NSW and contributes to a better environment through the sustainable use of natural resources.
Within NSW DPI, the Biosecurity & Food Safety Division is responsible for effective management and risk minimisation of biosecurity threats to NSW as well as the through-chain regulation of food safety. It delivers a risk-based approach to policy and compliance, and provides regional engagement and coordination in response to emergency incidents and natural disasters impacting primary industries and the food sector.
The NSW DPI Animal Biosecurity team share the values of trust, curiosity, courage and commitment. We lead policy, strategy and intelligence for animal and aquatic biosecurity surveillance, preparedness and response activities in NSW. We drive and contribute to national biosecurity policy, strategy and programs to enhance Australia’s biosecurity and support trade. We work closely with colleagues in the State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory and Local Lands Services (who provide government veterinary field services), as well as industry and the community.
