Veterinary Officer – South East

Location: Bairnsdale or Maffra

Salary: $105,479 to $127,621 + super.

Please note: Due to Machinery of Government changes under Section 30 of the Public Administration Act (PAA), effective 1 January 2023, your employment will be with the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action. Corporate Services, including payroll, will be provided by the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions while a process for the formal transfer of staff in impacted areas is implemented.

The Veterinary Officer (VO) works as a member of the Animal Health and Welfare Unit, to ensure the delivery of major animal health projects that include disease surveillance; livestock legislation and enforcement management; emergency preparedness and response; and traceability and auditing. As a member of the South East team, the VO is responsible for providing operational assistance to regional South East animal health districts.

As a Veterinary Officer, you will contribute to leading disease and animal welfare investigations in South East animal health districts. By utilising your clinical experience in the prevention, investigation, diagnosis, control, eradication and treatment of diseases of farmed livestock in Victoria, you will contribute to better veterinary outcomes in these investigations.

To be successful in this role, you will have detailed knowledge of and experience in the application and review of procedures used in the prevention, investigation, diagnosis, control, eradication and treatment of diseases of farmed livestock in Victoria.  If you can demonstrate experience working with and handling farm livestock along with well-developed leadership skills, then this could be the position for you.

 

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

Mandatory

  • An appropriate tertiary degree in Veterinary Science registrable with the Veterinary Practitioners Registration Board of Victoria.
  • Candidates must have these qualifications to be considered eligible and verification is required prior to appointment.

 

Desired

  • Experience liaising and negotiating with government departments, farmers, livestock agents and other industry representatives.
  • Good understanding of the livestock industries in Victoria, and of the disease control, emergency management and chemical residue minimisation programs administered by DEECA.

 

This is an ongoing, part-time or full-time position. The work location for this position is Bairnsdale or Maffra with hybrid work arrangements available.
