We are after motivated and enthusiastic Field Veterinary Officers to join our team and are establishing an open pool of suitable applicants to fill a variety of positions and locations within the branch. We currently have positions in Katanning, Narrogin, Moora, Geraldton, Broome, Kununurra for immediate filling. Opportunities range from Specified Callings Level 1 to 3.
What is an Open Pool?
This is an open pool and we encourage applicants to apply at any time for the duration of the open pool unless a closing date is otherwise specified.. Candidates will be assessed, and Interviews will be conducted on a regular basis. If you are found suitable for the position, you will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made for similar vacancies across the department.
The Opportunities
This is an exciting opportunity for registered veterinarians to work amongst a diverse team of disease surveillance and national animal health programs within the Animal Biosecurity and Welfare branch. Field veterinarians play a critical role in surveillance and emergency animal disease preparedness which underpins Western Australia’s extensive livestock market access. These roles will provide scientifically based advice on livestock disease diagnosis, prevention and control and provide a rapid response to an emergency animal disease incident in Western Australia in accordance with state policies and procedures.

We are seeking individuals with great interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with key Department stakeholders, as the role will require you to engage with a wide range of community groups and local Departments in the regions of Western Australia. Am I eligible to apply?
To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia. To be eligible for a fixed term or a casual appointment you must have documentary evidence of your entitlement to live and work in Australia for the period as part of your application.
You will be required to provide a current National Police Certificate (police clearance) before commencing employment. If not currently held, this must be acquired prior to commencement at applicant’s expense.
Special Requirements for this position:
- A degree in Veterinary Science (obtained from an Australian university or recognised equivalent), and current recognised registration (or able to obtain prior to commencement) with the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Western Australia. Registration must be maintained whilst employed by the department.
- A current and valid Western Australian C (car) class driver's licence, or equivalent is required (if not currently held, must be acquired prior to commencement at applicant's expense).
- Occasional travel to and from metropolitan and regional offices may be required.
