The Opportunity
Are you keen for a new challenge? Are you interested in building South Australia’s capacity and capability in emergency animal disease response? Do you want to help South Australia prepare for possible outbreaks of foot and mouth disease, African Swine Fever, avian influenza or a number of other emergency animal diseases?
The Veterinary Officer will join PIRSA’s Emergency Animal Disease (EAD) Preparedness team to work on developing regional preparedness plans for EAD response in South Australia
The position is open to new or recent veterinary science graduates, through to those with any level of experience in this field. The training and support available for the role can be adapted to suit your individual development needs and level of prior experience in the field. What will I do on a day-to-day basis?
The Veterinary Officer is a regionally based role working with PIRSA staff, the livestock industry and other government agencies at a local level to build strong networks with local knowledge that increases the likelihood of successful EAD response.
The role will work within regional communities to build trust and awareness of emergency animal disease. Core to this role is to develop region-specific strategies for EAD response and build the local community capacity in EAD preparedness and response. The role will develop and deliver industry- and region-specific EAD awareness and preparedness materials and training, covering disease detection, prevention, exercising, monitoring and reporting.
You will work with colleagues in the EAD Preparedness Team and other areas of PIRSA Animal Biosecurity to apply EAD policies and procedures to the regional and local level.

Special Conditions
- Successful applicant will be required to satisfactorily complete a National Police Check (NPC) prior to being made an offer of employment
- Australian residency or current works permit is required (responsibility of applicant to provide evidence of a current work permit).
Requirements
- Essential: Degree in veterinary science (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent)
- Desirable: Demonstrable experience in emergency animal disease preparedness response
- Desirable: Possession of a current driver’s license and willingness to drive
