Description
Veterinary Officer
Emergency Animal Disease (EAD) and Epidemiology
Are you keen for a new challenge? Are you interested in data, epidemiology, and emergency animal disease preparedness, and want to develop your skills in these areas? Do you want to help South Australia prepare to respond to emergency animal diseases?
We are looking for a Veterinary Officer to join our Epidemiology and Risk team, working on emergency animal disease preparedness and epidemiology.
This is an opportunity to be part of a supportive, friendly team, with flexibility within your work, and lots of development opportunities.
The role is open to new or recent graduates, through to those with any level of experience in this field. The training and support available for the role can be adapted to suit your individual development needs and level of prior experience in the field. So, if you’re passionate about a career in epidemiology, don’t be put off by thinking you haven’t got enough experience – we can offer the support and training necessary to help you develop in the field and succeed in this role.
What will I do on a day-to-day basis?
This is an office-based role working on the use of data to help make decisions, risk assessment, and broader application of epidemiology across our day-to-day animal health programs and preparation for emergency response. You will work on data analysis to identify disease risks to South Australian livestock, scenarios of disease spread within South Australia, development of surveillance plans for emergency animal diseases, assessment of management options for emergency animal diseases, and lots of other activities (not all in one day!!). You will have the opportunity to work with colleagues in other areas of PIRSA Animal Health on various tasks and projects, as well as contribute to national committees and working groups.
Additional benefits of working with PIRSA Animal Health
- flexible working hours, which are family-friendly
- the option to do some of your working days/hours from home, if desired
- no regular after-hours or weekend work is required
- financial support is available to undertake relevant training or further education
- some additional leave can be provided to support relevant training/education activities
