About This Opportunity
We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and organised Veterinary Officer (Research) with experience in performing a broad range of animal health services and working in a combined research and training environment.
You will be responsible for providing high quality, relationship-centred approach to veterinary care, with a commitment to developing genuine partnerships with colleagues, peers and research staff. You will also be involved in the development of training courses designed for all animal technicians and researchers through demonstration and practical instruction.
Some key responsibilities include:
- Assist the veterinary team and facility managers in implementation of animal health monitoring protocols.
- Assist in preparation of reports to ensure current laboratory animal science trends in health and veterinary matters are followed.
- Assist researchers and animal facility staff training to ensure safe practices and procedures are in place.
- Facilitate Research activities by provision of support including: experimental design, animal models, animal ethics, research participation and post procedural monitoring of experimental animals.
- Oversee education and training of researchers and animal technicians in laboratory animal techniques including animal handling and technical procedures.
- Liaise with the Animal Welfare Unit where necessary as part of the veterinary team to provide guidance with research protocols and procedures.
This is a full-time, permanent position primarily based at the St Lucia campus however, there is an expectation that this position will work across multiple campus locations.
At HEW level 8, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $105,338.31 to $118,280.70, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $123,245.82 - $138,388.42 annually.
About You
- Bachelor of Veterinary Science or equivalent and registered veterinarian in Australia.
- An understanding and knowledge of veterinary medicine, surgery and animal care as it applies to laboratory animals.
- An understanding of regulatory compliances pertaining to Laboratory animals in research. A broad knowledge of pathogen exclusion, health monitoring, Biocontainment and Quarantine procedures
- Ability to conduct and supervise training workshops.
- A demonstrated relationship-centred approach to veterinary care, with a commitment to developing genuine partnerships with colleagues, peers and research staff.
- Ability to prioritise own workload, work independently and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal, teamwork, negotiation and consultation skills and formal written and oral communication skills
