Description

The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment is seeking to fill multiple permanent and temporary veterinary positions in various locations throughout Australia. The varied roles exist within the Veterinary and Export Meat Branch (VEMB) and are as follows:

On-Plant Veterinary Officer (OPV)

OPV’s perform inspection and verification activities in export registered abattoirs across Australia.   They are responsible for ensuring processors meet their obligation to comply with relevant export legislation particularly as it applies to food safety, product integrity, animal welfare and the specific requirements of importing countries. OPV’s often manage a small team of department staff performing inspections at export abattoirs.

Live Animal Import/Export Veterinary Officer (VO)

VO’s are responsible for providing regulatory veterinary services for the import and export of live animals and animal genetic material under the Biosecurity Act 2015 and Export Control Act 2020.

Applicants should note that these roles will at times require weekend, after hours work and travel which will result in overtime or travel payments as applicable.
