An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Veterinary Nurse to join the Veterinary team at Melbourne Zoo.
Role requirements:
- Deliver veterinary nursing in a range of disciplines including anaesthesia, surgery, medicine and radiology.
- Perform a range of applied laboratory diagnostic testing including haematology, biochemistry, parasitology and water quality testing.
- Maintain the surgery, laboratory, pharmacy and necropsy facilities and equipment to a high standard of presentation and hygiene, including following schedules for routine clinic cleaning and equipment maintenance.
- Conduct safe and humane capture, restraint and transport for a variety of animal species, both collection and non-collection.
- Assess and apply best practice husbandry to monitor and maintain animal wellbeing to a broad range of collection and non-collection animal species in the veterinary hospital, including nursing care, rehabilitation, hand-rearing, animal enrichment, training and conditioning programs as required.
The ideal candidate will:
- Be highly motivated, enthusiastic, well organised and able to work well autonomously and under pressure.
- Have experience as a Veterinary Nurse and knowledge in specialist areas including anaesthesia, clinical pathology, radiography, use of diagnostic equipment, dental vet nursing and zoo, exotic and wildlife care will be highly regarded.
- Excellence interpersonal and communication skills and be able to be responsive and flexible in a dynamic environment, taking initiative when required.
- A strong focus on safety
- Current Employee status Working with Children Check card.
- Under directions from the Chief Health Officer, successful applicants must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and able to provide evidence of this.
