About the role
Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ) is currently looking for a part time experienced Veterinary Nurse to join our Brisbane Community Veterinary Clinic!
The Veterinary Nurse is responsible for supporting the veterinarians in providing the highest level of treatment and care for patients. This includes communicating treatment plans to owners, coordinating care of patients and promoting preventative health care. You’ll be working within a team of highly skilled and passionate veterinary professionals under the banner of one of the most respected brands in animal welfare. Key Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians with routine examination and surgical procedures
- Preparing surgery schedules, implement surgery preparations as instructed
- Providing veterinary nursing care and grief support to clients
- Apply radiographic routines and implement procedures
- Performing and recording pathology procedures, assist with post mortem and euthanasia
- Monitoring patient anaesthesia
- Performing post-operative procedures
- Nursing hospitalised animals, monitor clinical signs, communicate with owners
- Sterilisation of instruments according to practice sterilisation procedures
- Prepare medications as required
- Provide animal care, food and water as required
- Meet animal health regulatory and legislative requirements
- Maintain clinic hygiene in accordance with policies & procedures & WHS requirements
- Knowledge, understanding and empathy for community animal health and welfare issues
What are the minimum requirements for this position?
- Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or recognised equivalent
- Authorised Implanter Number (AIN)
- Minimum of 3+ years' vet nursing experience
- Excellent animal handling skills, experience with anxious animals in the clinic environment
- Experience in a busy, fast-paced work environment
- Good computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite
- Previous experience in a shelter/rescue environment will be highly regarded
