Kangaroo Island Veterinary Clinic is searching for an experienced veterinary nurse.  The right person will possess a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing but people with a Certificate II in Animal Studies with relevant experience and enthusiasm will also be considered!  The right person will have experience with animal handling and husbandry, as well as medical and surgical nursing.  The right person would also have a sound foundation in providing advice and support to companion animal owners.  Personal and/or professional experience with horses and production animals is not mandatory but an absolute plus!

 

Your roles within the business would include:

Providing small animal, equine, wildlife and production animal medical and surgical nursing

Providing animal handling and veterinary support for clinic and hospital patients, as well as providing care for hospitalised patients

Providing high quality over the counter product education and sales within the companion animal, equine and production animal spaces

Providing kennel handling and husbandry of boarding animals

Providing after hours call back services one week in four with an on-call bonus

 

The Kangaroo Island Veterinary Clinic has been established for 38 years.  It is a true rural mixed practice that sees approximately 50% small animal and wildlife, 30% sheep, 15% cattle and 5% equine work.  The newly expanded purpose-built clinic accommodates small and large animal consults, including mobile services.  It also features a large farm animal retail section for the provision of products backed by high quality, specific advice from qualified staff with a thorough understanding of animal and farming systems.  The small animal facilities are continually expanding and upgrading and include fully computerised PMS, digital x-ray, ultrasound machines, a full surgical suite and a full in-house laboratory.

 

The clinic is located just 3km from Kingscote, the major town servicing the Island. You won’t be missing anything on this Island – the substantial tourism and agriculture sectors support an array of amenities locally, including various art and sporting facilities and clubs, a well equipped hospital, horse riding groups and several schools and supermarkets. It is only a short 20 minute flight to the capital city of South Australia, Adelaide. The Island is a remarkable place that provides a unique lifestyle unlike anywhere else. A lot of our team members have relocated to Kangaroo Island to enjoy what it offers – an incredible unspoilt natural environment with wide expanses of beaches and bush, authentic wildlife experiences, premium local food and wine, art inspired by peaceful, wild surrounds and the opportunity for agricultural ventures.

 

A large part of this role involves interacting with our loyal and valued clients, therefore you must also be a people person with great enthusiasm and a good sense of humour!  Hours and remuneration for the right candidate are negotiable depending on experience and will be above the award.  As mentioned previously, experience is a must but we believe attitude is everything and skills can be developed and polished through mentorship and training - so if you feel you have the right strengths to offer please apply!
