We are seeking a collaborative and reliable individual who is passionate about caring for animals to join to Equine Specialist Hospital. As a Veterinary Nurse, you will support a large team of staff, students and veterinary specialists as well as assist with clinical teaching.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Assess, monitor, treat and maintain excellent husbandry standards for patients in ICU, isolation and hospital stalls
- Practice correct care, cleaning and maintenance of technical and specialised instrumentation and equipment
- Assist with radiography, Computer Tomography, Scintigraphy and M.R.I. procedures when required
- Perform diagnostic clinical pathology techniques relevant to the role
- Supervise and teach technical skills to veterinary and veterinary technology students.
- Assist with management of pharmacy inventory, including stock levels, prices and stock take, using the practice management software

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for up through to the end of July 2024.
At HEW level 4, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $68,735.35 – $72,968.15, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $80,420.36 – $85,372.74 annually.
About You
- Bachelor of Veterinary Technology, Bachelor of Applied Science (Veterinary Technology), Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent, together with nursing experience. Or equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Proven experience working reliably as part of a team staffing a roster to provide equine specialist hospital services 7 days per week
- High level organisational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work flexibly with the use of initiative and autonomy.
- Good written and oral communication skills and demonstrated ability to use these skills in managing professional & operational relationships with colleagues, clients and students.
- Knowledge of ethical requirements, relevant policies and procedures, including workplace health and safety, employment equity and anti-discrimination.
- An effective team player who maintains effective working relationships in a team.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and excellence in the field of veterinary nursing.
- Interest in the clinical teaching of veterinary and veterinary technology professionals in training.
- Willingness to participate in other professional service activities e.g. VNCA, community organisations, RSPCA, PetPEP (AVA).
- Possess or be able to apply for a radiation license.
In addition, the following mandatory requirements apply:
