This is the exciting reality of vet nurse life at the After Hours Veterinary Emergency Centre (AHVEC)! We have recently become a part of the Animal Emergency Australia (AEA) family, and we are currently working on becoming a 24hours per day, seven days per week facility. As AHVEC is approaching some exciting times ahead, we are looking for both developing and experienced Emergency and Critical Care Veterinary Nurses to join our ever-growing team.
About After-Hours Veterinary Emergency Centre (AHVEC)
AHVEC is Tasmania’s leading emergency and critical care referral centre. Our hospital is located in the beautiful capital of Tasmania, Hobart! We deliver world class emergency veterinary medicine and gold standard patient care. We are always bustling with exciting cases and an energetic atmosphere. We have all the toys including blood gas, digital X-Ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, and ventilation.
Roles on offer
We are looking for qualified veterinary nurses who thrive in a hands-on, dynamic environment.
Our non-negotiable is availability to work on weekdays between 5pm and 9am, and 24-hours on weekends and public holidays. Our team shares a flexible roster with a range of shifts times and days.
Veterinary Nurse - Development Program
We have been working hard, and we now have a Development Program! This is perfect for nurses with 2-3 years’ experience in General Practice wanting support to make the transition, including newly qualified nurses. As part of the program, you will:
- Be allocated a mentor and a team of trainers to support you through your development into the emergency nurse role.
- Receive on the floor training, including “buddy” shifts with your mentor and trainers.
- Webinars and online resources to enhance any areas where you need additional training and support.
- Have free access to our monthly in-house CPD, an online database with training modules and webinars, and enrolment in the Elevate Emergency Nursing program to help solidify your skills and knowledge as an emergency and critical care veterinary nurse.
Veterinary Nurse - Experienced
If emergency medicine seems daunting or you don’t think you have the clinical skills, please know that it is common for us to help nurses make the transition from GP. This role will be ideal for nurses with 5+ years’ experience in General Practice. You will:
- Have support and training from our experienced team of nurses
- Commence your role with a series of “buddy” shifts.
- Have access to our own accredited course (the AES Elevate Emergency Nursing Program) to help bridge the gap between GP and emergency.
Eligibility Requirements
- Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or Bachelor of Veterinary Technology.
- A passion for excellent patient care.
- The drive to work as part of a team.
- A desire for continuing education.
