Casual Vet Nurse

We are seeking an experienced and qualified Veterinary Nurse to join our passionate team at the Willawong Animal Rehoming Centre.

 

What does the job involve?

The onsite Veterinary Nurse is responsible for supporting the veterinarian in providing the highest level of treatment and care for patients. This includes communicating treatment plans to staff and foster carers, and coordinating care of patients.

AWLQ promises to never euthanize a healthy, sociable or treatable animal in our care, this means we treat a wide variety of conditions on top of routine surgeries and procedures.

Our Willawong Rehoming Centre offers a fun and supportive team environment, they work hard but enjoy a good laugh.

 

Working in this role, you will:

•          Assist veterinarian with routine examinations of animal’s onsite and returning from foster

•          Providing veterinary nursing care

•          Sterilisation of instruments according to practice sterilisation procedures

•          Prepare medications, provide animal care

•          Communicate treatment plans, nursing and animal care advice to AWLQ staff and foster carers

•          Data entry of health, medication and when needed behaviour information of animals

•          Starting and updating medication charts and records

•          Assisting with surgery appointment scheduling and the transfer of animals between sites for medical treatment

•          Assist with euthanasia

•          Maintain clinic hygiene in accordance with clinic policies and procedures and follow WHS duties

•          Knowledge, understanding and empathy for community animal health and welfare issues

 

What are the minimum requirements for this position?

To be eligible to apply for this role, you must meet the following selection criteria:

  1. Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, minimum requirement
  2. Demonstrated practical veterinary nursing experience of at least 2 years
  3. Excellent animal handling skills, experience with anxious animals in the clinic environment
  4. Enjoy working in a close knit team
  5. Demonstrated ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks
  6. Strong customer service, interpersonal and communication skills
  7. Demonstrated ability to work under broad supervision
  8. Ability to work independently as well as to actively participate in and effectively contribute to a team environment
  9. Computer literacy across a range of software packages
