Description

Guide Dogs NSW/ACT is the largest provider of orientation and mobility services for people with sight loss in Australia. We are a trusted brand delivering thousands of free client service programs annually. We provide and train our clients in the use of aids including guide dogs, mobility canes and electronic devices.

We are seeking a part-time Veterinary Nurse to join our team at the Guide Dogs Centre in Glossodia (past Windsor) to cover a period of parental leave to 13 October 2022. Our modern kennel complex has capacity for 90 dogs and is equipped with an onsite veterinary surgery. The successful candidate will assist the vet during radiographic and surgical procedures, carry out blood and urinary tests, maintain records and equipment, other general nursing tasks, kennel attendant duties and regular liaison with the Centre staff.

Applicants must be available to work 8:00am – 3:30pm across preferably 3 days a week between Tuesday to Thursday.

 

To be considered for this opportunity you must demonstrate:

  • A completed Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing qualification with demonstrable experience is highly desirable, but we may consider candidates with relevant experience that are currently undertaking qualification.
  • Ability to competently handle and care for dogs of all ages and at various levels of training.
  • Experience using veterinary databases and MS Office programs with a strong attention to detail.
  • A valid drivers license with a clean driving history.
  • A high level of initiative, enthusiasm and energy.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate sensitively and respectfully with relevant stakeholders.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team including following direction.
  • Flexibility and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy, fast-paced environment.
  • The ability to follow through with all tasks; reliable and accountable.
  • Mature and professional approach to your work and presentation.
