Description
Do you have a passion to work as a Primary Opinion General Practitioner with a supportive team of vets, nurses and students in an accredited veterinary teaching hospital? If so, we can provide you with a great working environment, great remuneration and a wonderful group of colleagues.
We currently have a 12 month, fixed term position available in our Primary Opinion General Practice. As we also run a successful Emergency Clinic, no after-hours component is required and so your working week would be Monday to Friday. We can also consider part-time hours.
A competitive and attractive salary is available including an employer contribution of 17% superannuation. We support continued professional development and we’ll provide an annual budget of up to $3000 towards approved activities. Additional details available on application.
The role:
The Companion Animal Health Centre (CAHC) is seeking to appoint a qualified Veterinarian in our General Practice department for 12 months to cover a period of paternity leave . Our veterinary teaching hospital is VSBSA-accredited across all species. You would be working with a supportive team of vets, nurses and students.
The caseload is varied including wellness services supported by dedicated GP nurses, dentistry, surgery, imaging and medicine cases. There is also access to all imaging modalities including endoscopy, CT and the support of a dedicated radiographer. The CAHC has access to an onsite veterinary diagnostic laboratory enabling direct contact with pathologists for case discussion and best outcomes for patients. As a GP in the primary opinion service you will enjoy strong support from a lively group of experienced academic specialists and an opportunity for case discussion daily with input from all staff.
You will also have the opportunity to involve highly motivated final year veterinary and veterinary technology students in clinical case management. By providing students with additional learning opportunities where appropriate and demonstrating the highest standard of clinical and professional behaviour, you will be making an important contribution to the clinical education of the next generation of veterinarians.
About you:
- You are an enthusiastic, team-oriented veterinarian with a strong drive to deliver the highest standards of clinical service and care.
- You have proven experience in first opinion care and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- As a leading-edge general practice, we offer the general public and referring veterinarians a range of emergency, first opinion, ambulatory and specialist veterinary services across all animal species.
- We’re located on a beautiful rural campus surrounded by great lifestyle opportunities. These include the world-renowned Barossa Valley wine region, beaches, sporting activities, benchmark schools and shopping facilities.
To be successful you will need:
- Veterinary qualification with eligibility to be registered as a veterinarian in South Australia along with a minimum of 2 years veterinary experience in first opinion services, although recent graduates will be considered.
- Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of clients and team members.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm and experience in assisting, teaching or mentoring others.
- Demonstrated high level written communication skills, including the ability to keep detailed, accurate medical records and write professional referral letters and client correspondence.
