Key tasks and responsibilities of the role (your contribution)
• Conduct, manage and report laboratory-based disease investigations, surveillance, health and regulatory testing.
• Provide expert advice on the interpretation, diagnosis and control of complex disease cases based on your disease investigation skills and demonstrated knowledge of veterinary pathology.
• Provide advice to clients on sample submission to the laboratory and result interpretation.
• Maintain and develop a sound knowledge of livestock, wildlife and aquatic animal diseases to ensure that decisions made and activities undertaken meet professional expectations.
• Ensure that diagnostic activities are carried out in line with quality requirements according to NATA and ISO 17025 standards.
• Participate in quality assurance programmes including proficiency testing and internal and external review processes to ensure continuous maintenance and improvement of diagnostic standards.
• Use expertise to support field, operational and policy work.
• Undertake a professional development program and study in the field of Veterinary Pathology that leads to gaining Membership of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (ANZCVS).
• Work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team, maintaining a high standard of work and provide assistance to other areas of the laboratory at the request of the Manager.

You must have
• A degree in veterinary science from a recognised tertiary institution.
• Current or eligible registration with the Queensland Veterinary Surgeons Board.
• Experience in, or ability to learn, both terrestrial and aquatic pathology.
• Vaccination or immunity to Q Fever and Rabies will be required. Commitment to obtain vaccination or evidence of prior vaccination will be required prior to starting with Biosecurity Queensland.
• Participation in an on-call roster and out-of-hours work will be required.
