Veterinarian

 

Coolmore Stud, located in the Hunter Valley of NSW, is seeking applications for the following full-time positions:

 

Veterinarian – Duties will include:

  • Reproductive examination for breeding
  • Pre-Breeding laboratory sample collection and interpretation
  • Antenatal examinations of broodmares
  • Post-natal examinations and care of broodmares
  • Newborn foal examinations
  • Stallion fertility and health examinations
  • Foaling down mares and primary emergency responder
  • Yearling radiography
  • Yearling upper airway endoscopy
  • Any minor surgical procedures, medical illnesses and emergencies, and basic animal husbandry issues on the stud

 

Essential Criteria - Veterinarian

  • Veterinary Degree
  • Registration with NSW Veterinary Board
  • A minimum of at least two years’ relevant experience
  • Knowledge and experience specific to thoroughbred breeding and reproduction
  • Knowledge of safe operation of all equipment and use of personal protective equipment
  • Sound knowledge of health and safety obligations and demonstrated skills in safe operation of equipment relevant to breeding horses

 

The salary for the Veterinarian position will be above $100,000 per annum.

 

 Horse Trainer/Breeding – Duties will include:

  • Overseeing daily care and supervision of horses
  • Assisting Veterinarians with ultrasound/reproduction examination including assisting in birthing foals and administering medical treatment to foals
  • Preparing young stock for sale
  • Monitoring mare ovulation and pregnancy
  • Assisting Veterinarians in attending to medical and health needs of horses as required

 

Essential Criteria - Horse Trainer/Breeding

  • A Certificate III or equivalent international qualification, or in the absence of a qualification a minimum of three years professional experience educating and training horses
  • A minimum of two years’ experience handling and working with and educating thoroughbred horses
  • Knowledge and experience of horse training and handling methods specific to thoroughbreds, including stallions, sales or breeding
  • Proven ability to train and educate young horses
  • For the management positions the suitable applicant will require extensive evidence of managing a team and breeding operation

The salary for Horse Trainer/Breeding will be based on your skills and experience in the range of $65,000 to above $75,000.

Accommodation may also be offered on the farm at Jerrys Plains NSW.
