Description

  • Are you tired of it all coming down to the money?
  • Negative client interactions taking a toll on your mental health?
  • Do you want to get back to your roots and find the passion that drove you to become a vet?
  • Do you want to be practising high quality surgery and medicine in a way that will make a real impact on the welfare of all creatures, great and small?

An exciting and highly sort after opportunity has arisen to join the Veterinary Team at RSPCA Victoria Burwood East site.

Life at RSPCA Victoria is varied and exciting. With 34 permanent Veterinarians on staff supported by experienced Nurses and Animal Attendants it’s a little bit like working in the ICU, with less clients, no afterhours and driven by animal welfare. Who could ask for more?

At RSPCA Victoria euthanasia is only performed when it is in the best interest for the welfare of the patient - we do not euthanase based on resources or capacity. When work up or treatment is beyond our capacity is required, we are supported by external specialists. We have a strong emphasis on team culture, work life balance and mental health. But by far one of the best aspects of working alongside likeminded vets and nurses who are dedicated to speaking up on behalf of the underdogs (and cats, and exotics) of the animal world.

What we are looking for from you

  • A Bachelor of Veterinary Science, current Victorian Veterinary surgeon registration, microchipping license and radiation license;
  • Ideally 2-3 years minimum experience, we may wave this for exceptional candidates
  • Capability to conduct simple to complex clinical consultations and surgical procedures independently appropriate to level of veterinary experience;
  • Ability and desire to coach less experienced staff;
  • Ability to operate as a team player, generate enthusiasm in the team and build effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Resilience and a strong collaborative drive;
  • A desire to work with the community to improve animal welfare outcomes

What we can offer you

  • A broad range of leave entitlements, including annual leave, personal leave, additional leave (6 days per year pro-rata), purchased leave, paid parental leave, study leave and paid family and domestic violence leave.
  • Recognised by Mental Health First Aid Australia, as an advanced workplace - Access to a range of mental health and wellbeing supportive initiatives, including confidential counselling services and education programs
  • Generous discount on products and services, including Royal Canin, Hush Puppies footwear and RSPCA Victoria retail and vet clinic products and services
  • Salary packaging and novated lease arrangements on offer with leading provider, Maxxia.
  • Access to a range of learning and development opportunities that will benefit and support you in your role

Qualifications and other requirements

  • Victorian driver’s licence, radiation use licence and microchipping implantation certificate;
  • Availability to work across a seven-day rotation roster, including 1 in 4 weekends and some public holidays;
