If you are a self-motivated 2–3-year experienced small animal veterinarian enthusiastic about further developing your skills in an ASAV accredited AND supportive team-orientated hospital, then we are the practice for you!
We are ready to commit to someone with remarkable communication skills who values the importance of building strong relationships with clients and their pets. You will be working within a family of dedicated and experienced veterinarians and support staff ready to guide and mentor you through busy consulting and surgical workloads, supporting and encouraging you to challenge yourself and improve both surgical and clinical skills. Willingness to learn and develop yourself professionally to deliver the high-quality customer service and exceptional client/patient care which the team pride themselves on is essential.
Our purpose at Karingal Veterinary Hospital is to support and nurture the special bond between our human clients and their pets by helping make sure these animals’ live lives that are as healthy and happy as possible. We provide a caring environment to deliver high quality surgery and medicine, with a strong focus on preventative healthcare. We are a 100% small animal hospital, treating only dogs and cats, in a modern purpose-built facility employing 10 veterinarians (8FTE).
The hours are pretty good
Working an average of 38 hours a week across 4 days, your shifts will include a mixture of day and evening consulting shifts and all-day surgery shifts. We are open every Saturday (9am-5pm) with vets working either a 1 in 4 full Saturday or every second Saturday morning. We are closed on Sunday’s and public holidays and do not have any after-hours or on-call, meaning more time for you to spend with family and friends.
The work is rewarding
You will be carrying out a variety of practice procedures including:
- Consults with patients (generally focusing on wellness and first opinion illness in your first year)
- General soft tissue surgery
- Diagnosing and managing the common medical problems we see in general practice
- Diagnostic laboratory work
- Using X-Rays to diagnose your patients while being exposed to ultrasonography with senior veterinarians
- Scaling/polishing and extracting teeth in cats and dogs making use of digital dental X-rays
At the hospital we see an interesting and varied caseload. It is often busy, but we have an excellent support staff to vet ratio to help manage this. We aim to stay ahead of the pack with regards to the equipment available to provide top quality care and are equipped with the latest imaging, surgical and monitoring equipment including DR digital dental x-ray, CR digital radiology, endoscopy, electrocautery, multiple Surgivet Anaesthesia monitors, Colour Doppler Ultrasound, and class 4 laser therapy.
The pay
The reward for your hard work and dedication will be between $70-80K with the exact pay rate dependant on your experience and how well your skills meet our requirements. You will also benefit from paid conference leave in addition to the budget to get you there. This is a full-time position.

Our veterinarians are encouraged and paid to attend conferences all around the world to learn about new and exciting things that improves our patient care and treatment options. While overseas travel is not currently an option, we will help you access quality professional development content a little closer to home. But rest assured that once safe travel is back within our reaches, our healthy Continuing Education Allowance in addition to paid conference leave will help you fulfil those aspirations of comprehensive and progressive veterinary learning abroad.
Required Qualifications
Veterinarians must have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) or equivalent recognised qualification (by Australasian Veterinary Boards Council) [link removed] and registered with the Veterinary Practitioners Registration Board of Victoria [link removed].
