Animal Welfare League NSW™ is dedicated to the protection and welfare of animals. The role
We’re looking for passionate veterinarians who want to make a real, tangible difference to animals in need! In this role, you will be providing expert care to surrendered, neglected, abandoned companion animals, and beloved pets. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with a supportive and experienced team of veterinarians and nurses.
Our vet team also has the privilege to work throughout NSW on the only Mobile Vet Truck in NSW, you’ll not only be saving lives and impacting animal welfare at our home in Western Sydney but also to communities in need across the state. This will involve time spent away from home on occasion, with all expenses paid for. The Mobile vet Truck is involved in desexing programs, Vaccination / microchipping days, and rapid response deployment to assist animals impacted by bushfires, floods, and other disasters. We work alongside the DPI, NSW Government, RFS, State Emergency Services, local councils, and our Network of AWL volunteer branches throughout NSW.
Our veterinary Hospital at Kemps Creek is well-equipped to respond to a varied range of patient’s needs. Expect to expand your knowledge in shelter medicine and improve your surgery skills at steady pace. We pride ourselves in our professionalism, while providing a relaxed and understanding culture.
The clinic operates 7 days a week so there is a requirement to work weekends on a rotating roster allowing staff to maintain a healthy work life balance.
Your main responsibilities will include:
Clinical procedures and practice:
- Carrying out routine examinations and diagnosis
- Perform surgical procedures
- Prescribe and administer medications and anaesthesia
- Perform radiographic procedures and pathological testing
- Communicate diagnosis and treatment plans to clients (including shelter staff)
- Patient/client records management
- Develop documentary evidence for Inspectors’ cases where required and, if necessary, supporting this evidence in court
- Assist on the Mobile Vet Clinic with community programs, and emergency deployment if required
- Provide mentoring and skills development to other team members in surgical, diagnostic and/or medical procedures
The skills you will possess are:
- Relevant veterinarian surgeon tertiary qualifications
- At least one-two years’ experience in veterinary practice
- Registration as a veterinary surgeon in NSW
- Understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures
- Ability to communicate ideas on complex and sensitive issues clearly
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team to achieve shared goals
- Advanced problem-solving skills
- Strong computer skills
- Able to collaborate and work cohesively with a team
