Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced veterinarian to work collaboratively with researchers, animal facility managers, and the University's Animal Ethics Committee to ensure the excellent animal care standards at the University are maintained to the highest level. You will also provide specialist advice and guidance to the University Executive on veterinary matters, including the legislative and statutory requirements for the welfare of animals used for scientific purposes.
These are full-time positions based in the ANU Acton campus. Flexible working hours and working-from-home arrangements can be negotiated with the successful candidate, taking into account the team’s operational requirements.
The role includes an after-hours advice component (shared as a roster with two other veterinarians) to provide assistance, mostly over the phone, for activities that occur nights, weekends and holiday periods. It is expected that the veterinarian will apply their professional judgement as to when attendance to campus is necessary.
As part of the recruitment process, shortlisted candidates will have the opportunity to meet key stakeholders across the University, including the current university veterinarian, biomedical and wildlife researchers, and members of the Animal Experimentation Ethics Committee and the Ethics Office.
Our ideal candidate
You will have a demonstrated track record in delivering high quality veterinary services, including the ability to conduct post-mortems and surgical procedures. You will have demonstrated skills in time management and independent problem-solving, and experience in resolving complex and sensitive issues in a diplomatic and sensitive manner, using your excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
If this sounds like you and you are ready to take the next step in your veterinary career in an animal welfare-oriented role for a leading research and education institution, we encourage your application. Significant support for professional development is available to help you settle and grow in the position.
