Clinical Veterinarian

Your new role

To ensure that the welfare of the animals is paramount in the design and conduct of research and teaching, we are seeking to appoint a University Veterinarian (Clinical) in our Research Ethics Unit. Closely collaborating with the Animal Ethics Committee (AEC) and the academic and technical community, you will provide veterinary, competency and welfare advice to stakeholdersThe University Veterinarian will support all approved animal research or teaching protocols in accordance with all relevant State & Commonwealth legislation, animal handling and welfare guidelines (or standards) & procedures. In particular, the adherence to the requirements of the Australian Code for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes (NHMRC,2013) and the Animal Welfare Act 1993 (Tas)

What you’ll need to succeed  

A degree in veterinary medicine and registration as a veterinarian in a State or Territory of Australia coupled with post-registration work experience will see you succeed in this role.

Effective written and verbal communication skills including the ability to design and deliver training seminars to diverse stakeholder groups will enable you to meet the desired objectives of the role. The ability to proactively identify and interpret emerging issues or trends in the animal ethics and animal welfare sectors and to develop and implement improvements or innovations in policy or practice will ensure we stay abreast of emerging trends.
