The Faculty of Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences is a leader in agricultural, food and veterinary science education and research in Australia.
The faculty comprises the Melbourne Veterinary School and the School of Agriculture and Food. The faculty operates across three campuses: Parkville, Werribee and Dookie. About the Role
The Tutor in Anatomic Pathology will play a substantial role in the provision of diagnostic services and will contribute to the teaching of undergraduate and graduate students in the anatomic pathology division of the Faculty of Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences.
The Tutor will provide mentoring and teaching in the areas of Anatomic Pathology and cognate fields, which will include the delivery of formal didactic teaching and preparation of teaching materials. The position will actively participate in leadership and service both within and outside the University and broader community and will be an effective member of committees at the School and Faculty levels as appropriate.
The Tutor will have demonstrated experience in teaching and scholarly activities under limited supervision and, under guidance and support from more senior staff, and will be required to seek collaborative opportunities within the Faculty, the wide University and external partners, as appropriate.
Responsibilities include:
- Contributing to innovative teaching and learning by conducting tutorials, classes, practical demonstrations, marking and assessment and laboratory-based workshops, which may extend to supporting preparation of lectures, individual consultations and the provision of online resources
- Performing comprehensive post-mortem examinations of a range of domestic, wild and exotic (zoo) animal species
- Leading by example and ensure the values, standards and expectations for appropriate behaviour in the workplace and the best interests of a leading University are upheld as well as the University’s commitment to a diverse and inclusive workplace
- Maintaining a sound knowledge of current University Policy and Procedures, and reliably follow these or provide compliant advice to others
About You
You will bring well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and an ability to tailor information to difference audiences in a diverse environment. You will demonstrate an ability to work autonomously and effectively as part of a team to deliver high-quality teaching outcomes. You will also show proven high level organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise a range of tasks, manage time effectively and meet competing deadlines.
You will also have:
- An awarded Veterinary degree registrable in Victoria
- Demonstrated experience and the ability to provide quality and innovative teaching and learning, and to supervise undergraduate, graduate diploma and honours students
- Proven experience and ability to provide effective teaching to students within the discipline
- A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in veterinary practice
- Demonstrated experience conducting post mortem examinations
