Job Description
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
Step into a progressive and rewarding position within the Vernon Jansen Unit (VJU) developing and delivering high quality technical training to a team of animal care technicians and researchers, as well as ensuring and monitoring a high level of compliance in all aspects of animal research being conducted in the Unit. The role is responsible for the line management duties that are associated with managing the VJU training and compliance team.
Through the delivery of specialist training to facility stakeholders you will be supporting high quality research outputs, and a high standard of animal health and welfare within the Vernon Jansen Unit. You will also ensure that there is a high level of legislative compliance within the facility. You will ensure that both training methods and compliance are kept current to national and international standards. You will ensure that training records are well documented and kept current.
This is a fulltime (37.5 hours per week), permanent role.

He kōrero mōu | About you
- You will have strong knowledge and experience in performing technical procedures in animal research environment.
- You will be a great communicator through multiple channels
- Key to your success in this role will be your ability to deliver a variety of high-quality hands-on training.
- You will be able to adapt your training delivery methods, to accommodate the varying capabilities of the students, while maintaining course expectations and outcomes.
- You will have experience in teaching delivery.
- Ideally you will have a background in animal technology and associated procedures, a strong understanding and application of regulatory compliance that is directly associated with animal technology, with particular focus on animal health and welfare, biocontainment, and animal ethics.
