Description

Are you passionate about animals and looking to kickstart your career in the veterinary field? Our Veterinary Nurses are like no other and are dedicated about providing the best level of patient care and customer service. In this exciting Trainee Veterinary Nurse role, you will gain hands-on experience and comprehensive training while working alongside a large team of skilled professionals in a supportive environment. You will be immersed in the day-to-day operations of our busy veterinary hospitals, where you'll learn how to care for a variety of pets, assist with medical procedures, and ensure that our furry patients feel comfortable and loved, as if they were your own.

About you:

  • You may have just completed Year 12 and/or Certificate II in Animal Care or an Animal Science/Vet Technology degree and wondering how to get into veterinary nursing.
  • You may be at a career crossroads and seeking change but not sure if you have what it takes to be a veterinary nurse.
  • You may be waiting to get into the Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing course at TAFE SA, but you could be learning on the job while studying.

To be shortlisted, you must:

  • Be prepared to be rostered an average of 35 hours a week over a 7-day rolling roster including early morning shifts, afternoon/evening shifts, weekends and public holidays.
  • Be flexible that you may work beyond your rostered shift and have a later finish to meet the needs of our patients under our care.
  • Be flexible to be rostered across our group to work in all three sites (Morphett Vale, Mitchell Park and Plympton) to cover rosters and participate in training opportunities. Own transport, a driving licence and a 30-minute commute is recommended. Ideally you should be living south of the CBD as a healthy work-life balance is important to thrive in this position.
  • Be committed to study Certificate IV Veterinary Nursing over a 3-year traineeship with an expectation that once qualified, you remain in employment with the Southern Vet Group to further enhance nursing and/or leadership skills and explore the exciting opportunities to grow your nursing career.
  • Be organised and able to time manage your study alongside on-the-job training.
  • Be prepared to be on your feet for your entire shift and confidently handle emergency/unpredictable and emotional situations.
  • Enjoy cleaning and keeping busy to maintain our high hospital standards and provide the very best care to our patients as if they were your own pet.
  • Be committed to continued learning and feedback to be the best you can be as a Veterinary Nurse through training roles in customer service, animal care, surgery and medical nursing.

We consider applications from all backgrounds and don’t always hire for experience but for the hands-on approach, can-do attitude, zest for learning and ultimately team fit.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited for a meet and greet session at our Southern Animal Hospital in Morphett Vale so don’t delay and apply today or drop your resume into one of our clinics.
