Mō tō mātou rōpū - About the Team
The Pest Management Group leads the development and delivery of high-profile national programmes that protect our environment, economy and way of life from established pests and diseases.
These programmes are delivered in partnership with other agencies, iwi, industry and communities. They include operational pest and pathways control activities, research into new and improved tools, and behaviour change campaigns. They manage the spread and impacts of pests that have recently established in New Zealand as well as pests that have been here for a long time.
The team manages or supports a broad range of programmes, including: the National Freshwater Pest Partnership initiative; regional marine partnerships focussed on preventing the spread of marine pests; and responses which aim to eradicate some of the worlds' worst aquatic and terrestrial weeds such as Manchurian Wild Rice, Didymo, Undaria and Salvinia.
The team supports readiness projects and responses new to New Zealand pests and diseases, and projects which improve and strengthen the wider biosecurity system and our partnerships.
The Pest Management Group sits within the Readiness and Response Services Directorate which brings together critical capability to prepare for and respond to new to New Zealand biosecurity threats. Therefore, this role will also support readiness and response activities, and projects which strengthen the wider biosecurity system and our partnerships.
Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role
As Team Manager, you'll lead and provide managerial oversight for the portfolio of long-term management programmes.
Specifically you'll:
- Lead a team of highly skilled and knowledgeable professionals;
- Provide mentorship for programme managers;
- Monitor programme budgets, contracted services, and overall progress against outcomes and milestones
- Manage strategic risks across the portfolio and ensure advice to senior leaders and Ministers is timely and of a high quality;
- Ensure health and safety best practice is followed in all programmes and manage any health and safety risks;
- Lead external communications with senior officials and community/iwi leaders;
- Build networks and partnerships with internal and external partners and stakeholders.
Mōu - About You
You'll be an experienced leader and natural collaborator. You will enjoy the challenge of building effective partnerships and delivering programmes that have real impact. You will have a proven ability to build and sustain a collaborative and high performing team and support individuals to develop and reach their full potential. You will ideally bring experience in managing operational programmes. And ideally have expertise in biosecurity and biodiversity programme management, policy and plan development, or resource management. Ideally you will have experience in a New Zealand central or local government agency, or a relevant industry sector.
