Description

Our local government client is seeking a Survey Officer (Animal Management) to join their team on a temporary basis. Based in Ipswich CBD, this role is available for an immediate start and will run until 27 October 2025. The position is full-time, working Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (38 hours per week).

 

About the Role

As a Survey Officer, you will play a key role in improving dog registration rates and ensuring compliance with local laws. This will involve property visits, community education, and enforcement actions to ensure responsible pet ownership.

You will also review council records, follow up on outstanding dog registrations, and update information to maintain accurate records. As a frontline representative of Council, you would be required to demonstrate excellent communication skills and exhibit a professional and courteous manner when dealing with members of the public.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct property inspections to confirm the registration status of dogs.
  • Engage with residents to provide education on pet ownership responsibilities.
  • Enforce compliance by issuing notices, penalties, and conducting investigations.
  • Review and update council records to ensure accuracy.
  • Process applications for permits and licenses in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Collect evidence and prepare reports for potential legal proceedings.
  • Ensure regulated dogs are kept in accordance with Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008.
  • Safely capture and handle animals, if required.

 

To Be Successful in This Role, You Will Need:

  • The ability to safely handle animals and work with animals in environments that animals frequent
  • Strong customer service and communication skills to interact with the public.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to process applications accurately.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound judgments in the field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • A current Queensland "C" Class Driver's License (mandatory).
  • Ability to handle working with animals and conducting site visits.

 

Desirables:

  • Previous experience in local law enforcement, compliance, or inspections.
  • Knowledge of local laws and regulations related to animal management.

 

Additional Information:

  • Uniforms, PPE, and a council vehicle will be provided for fieldwork.
  • Some after-hours or weekend work may be required.
  • Candidates may need to receive vaccinations for protection in this role.
