Job Summary

TTSH SSTC (Surgical Sciences Training Centre) is a training hub that facilitates and support surgical simulation-based trainings, workshops and research projects in NHG. It aims to enhance experiential learning for multidisciplinary healthcare professionals to develop surgical capabilities and timely transltion of new discoveries for continuous improvements in clinical outcomes and enhancements in patient safety.

You will work closely with workshop organisers, course trainers and the Veterinary Consultants, by providing logistics and technical support, liaison and coordination, handling and husbandry of live animals and biological specimens (such as animal tissues, cadavers), resolving issues during training and workshop. You will be involved in setting up, preparation and post event housekeeping, ensure smooth operation of all surgical simulation related equipment, computerised devices and environmental facilities used in Surgical Skills Laboratory.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • In charge of maintenance and management of Surgical Training Centre:
    • Coordinate usage of simulators and assessment of examination
    • Perform yearly count of equipment and assets
    • Assist and support in preparation of department's activities and events
    • Liaise with facilities management to ensure proper upkeep of the facility
    • Ensure proper records and logs of freezers
    • Oversee the maintenance of equipment and their preventive maintenance contracts/scheduled, and use of consumables for events are recorded and billed accordingly
  • Plan, liaise, coordinate, facilitate, and provide logistics and technical support on preparation and procedure of hands-on workshops and training programmes, inclusive of weekend runs.
  • Be engaged and responsible in handling and husbandry of large animals
  • Handle cadaveric specimens used for workships and courses. This includes:
    • Receiving, storing, prepping the cadeveric specimens
    • Preserving the cadaveric specimens during the course of workshops
    • Assist in the storage and handover of cadaveric specimens to Mortuary Team for crematory procedures after courses and workshops
  • Assist Principal Investigator in proceeding of experiement involving collection of samples and results, record of the laboratory animals, preparation of pre-operation including equipmen and instruments, technical support for operation and surviving the post-operation animals.
  • Assist Veterinarian on preparation of materials and animals for operation, supplying technical support in the proceeding of anaesthetizing animals and being engaged in management of post-operations.

 

Requirements

  • Degree holder in Science major or equivalent with minimum 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience in animal research lab facility setting, animal hands-on experience, including handling and husbandry
  • Experience in handling biological specimens (e.g. animal tissues, cadavers)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications - i.e. PowerPoint, Word, Excel
  • Ability to multi-task, organise and establish priorities, and perform under pressures
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Team player, flexible, willing attitude, pro-active, and able to work independently
