Position: Supervising Veterinarian (VTS1)

Location: Feilding

Salary: Range from $109,199 progressing to $136,499 per annum plus additional benefits. Starting salary will be dependent on skills and experience of the successful applicant.

About our team - Mō tō mātou rōpū

If you are you are an experienced Veterinary Verifier looking for your next career move, we have a vacancy for a Supervising Veterinarian (VTS1) based at ME128/PH367, Ovation Feilding Venison Packers.  This position reports to the Team Manager Establishments, Palmerston North and has line control of 2 VTS2 positions.

ME128 processes sheep and bobbies over 2 shifts, Monday to Friday.  The shifts cover 24 hours so there are 3 VS shifts. The VTS1 works predominately on the dayshift or evening shift and will rotate to the nightshift in accordance with MPI VS business rules and as negotiated on site.  PH367 processes deer, goats, ostriches and small cattle and also dresses wild animals working on 1 shift.

About the role - Kōrero mō te tūranga

We are looking for Veterinary supervisor to join our team.

In the role, you will:

  • Provide leadership, direction and clear communication including a high level of decision making, judgements and actions related to premises performance, issue management, clarification and process failures;
  • Plan and develop the strategy for premise performance; planning the scope for verification periods and effectively managing the workload of the VTS1, VTS2s and relievers;
  • Maintain competencies (for self/team);
  • Ensure all verification and official assurances relating to the premises are valid and will withstand third party audit;
  • Coordinate the responsibility for off plant work, such as on farm verification;
  • Ensure workloads are balanced and within agreed parameters with respect to shift rotations, verifier wellbeing, and hour of work agreements;
  • Attend and facilitate internal, external and market access reviews and manage resolution to review findings;
  • Define responsibilities and expectations for the VTS2s and managing performance including implementation of the performance enhancement;
  • Enhance relationships with the operator, Asure Quality and other stakeholders.

 

Skills and Experience - Ngā Pūkenga me ngā Wheako

To be successful in this role you need:

  • To be a qualified and NZ registered Veterinarian.
  • Experience as an establishment VTS (desirable but not essential).
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices associated with HACCP, Quality Assurance systems, Risk Management Systems.
  • Verbal and written skills as well as sound analytical reasoning skills.
  • Experience in people managing and having a creative approach to resolving issues.
  • Experience of demonstrating resilience and working under pressure while managing stakeholder relationships.
  • Computer literacy with the ability to operate standard and customised software.
