About the opportunity

The University of Sydney is welcoming applications for a Small Animal Veterinarian with an interest in growing the veterinarians of the future.  We have opportunities for those who enjoy consulting and primary care medical case management and /or those who would like to see graduates with strong surgical expertise starting with routine neutering procedures.

Reporting directly to the Small Animal Unit Head (Camden), the Small Animal Veterinarian will provide excellent cat and dog small animal veterinary services including medicine and surgery within Camden/Wollondilly districts as well as the independent supervision of the desexing clinic and developing and delivering of tutorials associated with these.

The SA team is comprised of dedicated general practitioners.  Many vets underestimate how much knowledge and value they can provide to our students, but vets who enjoy collaboration and simply always strive to do the best they can are our preferred candidates. The team is supported by qualified anaesthesia staff, advanced imaging, and on-site pathology and has a strong focus on promotion of teamwork and good working relations to facilitate excellence in clinical services, undergraduate teaching as well as the overall teaching and learning environment for staff.

The University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Camden (UVTHC) provides large and small animal veterinary services to the community and referring veterinarians.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• provide first opinion small animal services including medicine, surgery, and anaesthesia within Camden/Wollondilly districts
• provide ‘hands-on’ clinical training to final year students to develop ‘Day One’ skills including developing and delivering tutorials and independent supervision of spay clinic and first opinion consults
• support undergraduate veterinarians and nursing staff in the decision making of case management
• deliver gold standard general practice medicine to the community
• participate actively in development of wide range of skills and dissemination of knowledge through attendance at journal club, hospital, and student rounds.

About you
