Description

About us

North Shore Veterinary Specialist Centre was established in 2001 and is co-located with North Shore Veterinary Hospital. NSVH was built in 1935 and is the longest standing Veterinary hospital on the North Shore of Sydney. In early 2019 we moved to a brand-new state of the art, purpose-built facility. Our team is vibrant, friendly and passionate about the services we offer.

We are a 24/7, 365 day a year facility with specialists in:

  • Critical Care
  • Internal Medicine
  • Surgery
  • Diagnostic Imaging
  • Ophthalmology
  • Dermatology
  • Dentistry
  • Exotics
  • A bustling and supportive emergency department
  • A progressive general practice

We have:

  • Full in-house laboratory facilities
  • Comprehensive diagnostic imaging
  • 2 ultrasound rooms
  • Digital X-ray
  • 128 Slice GE CT scanner
  • 1.5T MRI

The successful candidate will work alongside the referral team including specialists in medicine, surgery and critical care as well as diagnostic imaging, ophthalmology, dentistry and exotics and small animals. Our interns commonly stay on beyond their one-year program which is a sign of their enjoyment in their year. You will form a close clinical relationship with the GP and out of hours emergency vets.

Located in the North Shore of Sydney we are the perfect base for beaches, sun and decent coffee.

The Opportunity:

The rotating internship is a strongly mentored program where you will progress your EBVM and clinical skills working alongside a large team of specialists, experienced GPs and out of hours vets and specialty nurses. You will receive regular didactic teaching in the form of specialist led lectures and tutorials, regular CPR training, participate in journal club and case presentations. Applicants that are keen to publish research will also be supported throughout the year.

You will get to experience all of our available specialties by doing 6-month rotations in surgery, internal medicine and ECC. All of the teams have some overlap with the other specialties in our hospital so you will be exposed to their work as well. The role includes 1 in 3 weekends. The position includes four weeks annual leave and one-week conference leave as well as a generous study allowance.

About you:

The ideal applicant will be motivated and always willing to learn and grow. Our aim is for you to keep as much out of the internship as possible. Good communication skills are essential. Above all else we value someone who is a team player; committed to our patients and is keen to be a part of our specialist team.

Candidates must be eligible for veterinary registration in NSW. You will be rewarded with a generous salary & benefits that is reflective of the experience you bring to the position. We will support you with visa applications, Australian Veterinary Registration and provide you with tailored relocation support to suit your situation.

Applications should include curriculum vitae, a letter stating the reasons for seeking the internship, and the name and contact details of two-three referees.
