The Senior Veterinary Officer will join PIRSA’s Emergency Animal Disease (EAD) Preparedness team to provide leadership and support to the manager of the EAD Preparedness program

Previous government and/or EAD experience is desirable for the role but not essential. The training and support available for the role can be adapted to suit your individual development needs and level of prior experience in the field. What will I do on a day-to-day basis?

The Senior Veterinary Officer is a largely office-based role working with PIRSA staff, the livestock industry and other government agencies to translate national EAD policies into operational plans and procedures for the South Australian context.

The role will apply outputs of national committees, working groups, and epidemiological and risk analysis advice, to technical areas such as animal movement restrictions, destruction and disposal, and surveillance and tracing. The role will identify logistical requirements, engaging with likely service providers, and contribute animal biosecurity technical input to communications, and the development and delivery of EAD training.

You will work with colleagues in the EAD Preparedness Team and other areas of PIRSA Animal Biosecurity to develop EAD policies and procedures, and engage extensively with the South Australian livestock industries and other key stakeholders, including private veterinarians, on preparedness for EAD response.

Requirements

• Essential: Degree in veterinary science (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent)
• Desirable: Demonstrable experience and/or qualifications in emergency animal disease preparedness and/or response
• Desirable: Possession of a current driver’s license and willingness to drive

$98,313 pa - $103,936 per annum
