West Queanbeyan Veterinary Hospital is looking for an experienced Senior Nurse to help us look after our furry friends!

What is on offer. 

  • Full-time Senior Nursing position.  Salary from $73,200 to $83,200.
  • An opportunity to work with a team that enjoys a high, varied and interesting caseload and in a facility which recently underwent extensive renovation/expansion, with all the equipment!
  • A team that gets together daily for clinic rounds plus weekly team meetings.
  • 38hr, 4 day week with the same day off each week (set roster) plus one weekend shift per month (paid at full penalty rates).  No split shifts and a 6.30pm finish (clinic closes at 6pm).
  • Personal and career development opportunities and above award wages. WQVH has an in-house development and progression pathway for non-vet staff designed to allow development, progression and reward (in an otherwise traditionally limited field) that recognises the skills, hard work and important contribution of Nurses to Veterinary practice.

 

What we are looking for:

An experienced senior nurse (minimum Certificate IV qualification or equivalent/above plus 10yrs experience) with the ability to work independently, high attention to detail and ability to apply high level of advanced nursing care with minimal supervision.

 

Specific skillset:

  • Strong animal handling skills/understanding of appropriate handling techniques.
  • Experience in appropriate care and preparation of complex equipment.
  • Advanced anaesthesia knowledge and anaesthetic monitoring capability.
  • Ability to independently take Xrays and perform dentals (scale and polish).
  • Independent hospital room patient care and management (from basic to complex).
  • Catheterisation.
  • Pathology routines/including sample collection.
  • Ability to provide some supervision, guidance and training of junior nurses.
  • Discharge hospital patients, providing sound client homecare instructions/animal care advice.
  • Ability to liaise with clients and nurse consult where appropriate.
