The Australian National University is offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced veterinarian with a degree in Veterinary Medicine (that is or can be registered in the ACT). The Senior University Veterinarian sits within the Research Services Division, in the Research and Innovation portfolio. This position is full-time and includes an on-call component (split with another veterinarian) to provide essential animal care and advice after hours (nights, weekends and holiday periods). In addition to the above salary, a loading of $5,000 will be paid in recognition of the requirement to provide responsive and expert advice outside of normal working hours. Significant support will also be provided for professional development.
Position overview
We are seeking an experienced veterinarian to work collaboratively with researchers, animal facility managers, the University's Animal Ethics Committee, and other staff in the Research Services Division to ensure the excellent animal care standards at the University are maintained to the highest level. You will also provide specialist advice and guidance to the University Executive on veterinary matters, including the legislative and statutory requirements for the welfare of animals used for scientific purposes.
You will have a demonstrated track record in delivering high quality veterinary services, including the ability to conduct post-mortems and surgical procedures, as well as the development and implementation of training, policies and procedures. You will have demonstrated skills in time management and problem solving and a demonstrated track record in resolving complex and sensitive issues in a diplomatic and sensitive manner, using your excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
An interest or background in laboratory animal medicine, particularly in relation to rodents and/or Australian wildlife would be a distinct advantage.
